My husband and I took this trip in January and I am just now getting around to posting it (because I took soooo many pictures). It was our first vacation since our kids were born and it was so nice and much needed! Our last trip was to South Korea, where my husband served his mission. While we were there, I found out I was pregnant with Ava. I can’t believe that was already four years ago! Here’s to hoping we don’t wait that long between all our vacations!
We flew into Cancun and then took a bus to Tulum. Tulum was gorgeous and I loved it there! We stayed there for four nights and then headed back towards Cancun to stay on Isla Mujeres for the last two nights. We saw ancient ruins, snorkeled in lot’s of cenotes (John’s favorite), saw Chichen Itza, ate lot’s of tacos and other delicious food, zip lined and deep sea fished. We didn’t get as much beach time as I would have like because we have the worst luck with the weather on vacations. In Korea, we planned to stay on a nearby island for a couple nights to take advantage of the beach… poured rain. Every time we planned a beach day in Mexico… windy and rainy haha.
I would highly recommend visiting Tulum if you are planning a vacation in the future. If you need any recommendations, I’m happy to help (or you could just take me with you).
The bus was an easy and cheap way to travel from the airport to Tulum, but it did involve some waiting. We didn’t mind and would do it again. They were comfortable, clean and had movies on board.
The first place we stayed in Tulum was a beach hut and this was the view right out the front door. It was amazing!
Tulum ruins. There were so many ruins to see here and a lot of area to cover.
This cenote was run by a couple guys living in a camp nearby. Definitely not your normal tourist spot, but it was so fun! It doesn’t have crystal clear waters like the others, so it isn’t as popular but that also meant we were the only ones there for quite a while. It by far had the most fish to see as well. Really cool!
This cenote was incredible! Which also means it was very crowded. The size and depth of it were amazing, so worth the crowds!
Chichen Itza. This was a couple hours out of the way, but we figured we had to see it while we were there! It was really interesting and as an architecture lover, it was awe inspiring!
This guy was by far my favorite local we met. He was selling ice cream from his little cart and he was just adorable!
Our second hotel in Tulum. This one was fancier than our first hut on the beach, but I actually preferred the hut. It was a really nice hotel, clean room, jet tub on the balcony and just beautiful! It was in the hotel zone on the beach, so more people and shops. It was better for walking around, shopping and finding restaurants.
This was one of the beaches on Isla Mujeres. Everyone rents golf carts to get around the island. It was pretty small, but there was plenty to do and see.
Our catch of barracuda on our fishing trip.
The rocky point of Isla Mujeres. Such pretty views and the pathway winding throughout was a fun walk. This was our last stop before we left for the airport, so we could have used more time here.
