Arie + Cake Smash Session
I can’t believe it’s been a whole year since I shot Arie’s newborn photos! She’s just as sweet as she was then. Even though she was a little overwhelmed by getting her picture taken, she did so well and LOVED her cake! She was absolutely adorable eating it with her tiny fingers.
If you’ve never done a cake smash session, here are a few tips:
- Lower your expectations! For most babies, this is a new environment and they aren’t used to having a big camera in their face. I’m guessing you don’t just give them a full cake to tear into on the regular, so they might not be too interested in it at first.
- Bring lots of baby wipes! Most cake smash sessions don’t get too messy, but baby wipes are the best for cleaning up afterwards.
- Bring extra outfits. I recommend 1-2 outfits for these sessions, but don’t forget a clean one for the ride home!
- You don’t need a fancy smash cake. You only need a small cake, about 6 inches. This client got hers at Harmon’s bakery for $8!
- Book in advance! Book 2-3 months before you want to shoot. My turnaround time is 1-2 weeks, so take that into consideration if you want the photos printed for baby’s first birthday party.
